Who we are

This website is owned by Human factor Media.

What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments: When you leave a comment on our website, we collect the data shown in the comments form and also your IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection. We use Akismet to detect and manage spam, the privacy policy for which is available here.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using the service. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Contact forms: When you submit any contact form on our website (to provide feedback, send a query or RSVP for a webinar), the submitted information is recorded on the website's database and also sent as an email by the website to the website administrators. This information is collected only for the purposes of responding or conversing with you about the information you have submitted. It is not shared with any third party.

To detect spam on these contact forms, we use Google's reCAPTCHA service, the privacy policy for which is governed by Google's general privacy terms available here.

Cookies: If you leave a comment on our website, you may opt in to save your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

If you visit our login page, we will set up a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and your screen display choices. Login cookies last for two days, and screen option cookies last for a year. If you select 'Remember Me', your login will persist for two weeks. If you log out of your account, the login cookies will be removed.

If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you just edited. It expires after one day.

Embedded content from other websites: Posts on our website may include embedded content (like videos, images and articles). Embedded content from another website behaves in the exact same way as if a visitor has visited the other website.

The other websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics: Our website uses Google Analytics software to track visits to the website and all its pages. Google's policies regarding personal information and privacy can be found here. How Google uses information from websites that use their services (such as Google Analytics) is described here. Please note that we do not use any third party advertisement services.

Webzine subscription service: Our website uses third-party software called MailPoet to manage the subscribers to the Varta webzine and send newsletters or automated emails to the confirmed subscribers. But no visitor or subscriber information is shared with this software at any point.

Who we share your data with

We do not share any personal visitor data with third parties.

How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.

For visitors who register on our website (process currently not operational), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit or delete their personal information at any time (but they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit the same information (barring changing the username).

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on our website, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal or security purposes.

If you have submitted a contact form which includes your personal information, you can request us to erase this personal data from our databases.

Where we send your data

Visitor comments are checked through an automated spam detection service called Akismet. Contact form submissions are also checked for spam using Google reCAPTCHA. This does not include any personal information of our visitors.
